As it turned out, the official color piece for Mason Vixen came together quite nicely. I wanted to make an effort to incorporate more elements into the piece, and slightly deviate from the usual pin-up style (or at least my usual pinup style.) The background was the main focus in execution. I had done one or two other color pieces with background elements, but they seemed to faultier the overall composition, even if the models turned out great. After a few weeks of researching tools and other medium options, I was able to find a more proficient method in doing digital backgrounds. Luckily, keeping up with the practice comic book pages helped with the initial layout on good ol’ paper and pencil:

In hopes that the purple color validates her “vixen” side, I applied a minimal amount of exotic eye makeup to add to the context. The subtle yellow smeared around the purple eye shadow and across the cheek gives off a sexy war paint look. Not to mention the low-cut V was intended to also self-symbolize.

Once again I was lucky to have a great model [thanks Sara!]. The photo shoot this time around was the best I’ve had yet. Just about every picture was a stellar turn out and that is a good sign when going into the drawing phase. If both pre-composition and well-lit models don’t resonate, drawings like this are hard to make happened:
